This is probably the easiest to make plant-based milk that exists out there! Homemade oat milk does not require any pre-soaking, any squeezing or any nut milk bag! How amazing can this be?
I really like plant-based milk, such as almond milk, and especially homemade ones, because you can control exactly what goes inside it and honestly, I prefer the taste of the homemade one over the store-bought ones.
For the very basic recipe, you only need 2 ingredients: rolled oats and water. You can make it fancier by adding a natural sweetener, such as dates or maple syrup, and a bit of vanilla.
This recipe is delicious, vegan and lactose-free. It can be used for several recipes or simply to drink it as it is. It goes really well with coffee, granola, and overnight oats, to use in a chia pudding recipe…basically with every meal or recipe that needs milk.
I hope you enjoy it!
Homemade Oat Milk Recipe Ingredients:
A little bit about the ingredients I used for this recipe. The exact measurements are described in the recipe form below.
Rolled Oats: Good old rolled oats are needed for making oats milk. If you have gluten intolerance, make sure to buy gluten-free oats.
Water: You will need filtered water to blend it with the rolled oats. For this recipe, I used 3 cups of water, but if you prefer it thicker, add less water. If you prefer not so thick, you can add more water as well.
Vanilla aroma/extract (optional): Vanilla is optional, if you want to add a nice flavor to your oat milk. If you want basic oat milk to use as an ingredient in other recipes or just because you prefer it with no vanilla, you can skip it.
Dates or Maple Syrup (optional): If you like sweet oat milk, you can add 1-2 dates to your oat milk or 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup, when you blend all the ingredients together. This time, I chose to not make my oat milk sweet, so I didn’t add any natural sweetener to it. This step can also be skipped if you want just basic oat milk.
How to make Homemade Oat Milk:
Homemade Oat Milk is the easiest plant-based milk to make because it doesn’t require pre-soaking in advance and a nut milk bag. In fact you will have to do minimal squeezing and pressing in this recipe to avoid getting slimy and grainy milk.
First, you are going to add all the ingredients in the blender. If you want basic oat milk, don’t add any sweetener or vanilla. Blend until getting a smooth texture and the milk looks white. If you add vanilla, the milk will not look super white, but white with a slightly amber color, like vanilla color.
Then, pass the milk through a fine sieve. Don’t squeeze it or press it against the sieve to avoid getting slimy milk.
Pour the oat milk into a sterilized bottle. It can be stored for up to 4 days in the fridge.
It’s done! See how easy it was?
It is normal to see some separation as the oat milk sits in the fridge, so make sure you shake it before using it.
