Whoever decided to turn almonds into almond butter, in my opinion, is a genius!
And the homemade version is even better (and cheaper) than the ones in store!
It is so tasty, creamy, and nutritious that makes me want to add it to every meal!
There are many ways of enjoying your homemade almond butter. You can add it to your morning oats or spread it on a piece of banana bread, to start your day!
The recipe I present here is plain almond butter, which is very simple and requires only 1 ingredient: almonds. You can use it as a base and customize it by adding to it whatever you like. You can add vanilla extract, cinnamon, or some kind of sweetener, such as maple syrup.
The almonds need to go to the oven for some minutes to help with the transformation process into butter, and this will give a bit of a toasted taste to the butter – and I love it!
Ideally, for this recipe you have a strong food processor, because although it is very simple, it might take time for the almonds to become a paste. It has to go through the process of being chopped, then becoming flour, and then finally a paste.
It requires patience (sometimes a lot of patience!) and you might have to stop a few times throughout the process to avoid damaging your food processor.
When I was preparing it, I stopped for a while by the end of the process to let my food processor rest a bit. When I came back after some minutes, I noticed that the amount of oil on the surface increased, and it turned into butter a lot easier.
So, I guess waiting a bit, by the end of the process can help!
The whole process might take a while, but the result is totally worth it!
Homemade Almond Butter Recipe Ingredients:
A little bit about the only ingredient I used for this recipe. The exact measurement is described in the recipe form below.
Almonds: It is the only ingredient that you will need to have the base of this recipe. Of course, you can add little extras if you want, but this recipe is the basic almond butter.
How to make Homemade Almond Butter:
First, you will need to “bake” the almonds a bit. This will make the process of turning almonds into butter faster and easier. Spread the almonds in an even layer on the baking sheet and place them in the center of a pre-heated oven (180°C /350°F). Toast for 7-10 minutes, or until fragrant and lightly golden, but be careful to not overcook or burn them.
Then, let the almonds cool down a bit and put them in a strong food processor. Process until very smooth. Stop as necessary to avoid damaging the food processor’s motor and bring the almonds back to center, scraping down the sides of the bowl.
Initially, the mixture will be chunky, then, it’ll thicken. And finally, it will become creamy and smooth, as the almond butter should be.
The whole process time will depend on the potency of your food processor.
Although, if it is taking too long, you may want to consider adding a teaspoon of oil (such as coconut oil), per time, to help with the process.
