I like homemade granola for many reasons, but the main reasons are: that it is easy to make, healthy, and delicious! And you can make so many different variations, like this one, so you never get tired of eating the same granola. This recipe I bring today is a Homemade Chocolate Dried Fig & Almond Granola.
Besides the good taste – I really like the combination of chocolate, dried figs, and almonds – the ingredients that are on it are really healthy. I wrote about some of their benefits below.
One really good thing about homemade granola is that you know exactly what is in it, so you can control the quality of the ingredients and the quality of the whole granola. No weird ingredients on it! This recipe is packed with good stuff that will nourish your body without compromising on taste!
As I mentioned here, once you start preparing your own granola, you don’t want to go back to the store-bought one!
Homemade Chocolate Dried Fig & Almond Granola Recipe Ingredients:
A little bit about the ingredients I used for this recipe. The exact measurements are described in the recipe form below.
Rolled oats: It is a good source of high-quality protein, minerals and vitamins, carbs, and fiber.
Dried Figs: Excellent source of fiber and calcium, besides being delicious, in my opinion!
Almonds: Rich in vitamin E and high in antioxidants. They will give a bit of crunchiness to the recipe and, of course, almond taste.
Pumpkin seeds: Another ingredient to give crunchiness to the recipe. It is also rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and minerals.
Chia seeds: Full of antioxidants, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids and minerals. If you want to know a little bit more about chia seeds, check this post.
Agave syrup: It is the sweetener I chose for this recipe, but you can switch to maple syrup if you prefer.
Coconut oil: It helps with making the ingredients more in chunks and crunchy.
Cinnamon: For a warm spiced flavor. Cinnamon is also full of antioxidants!
Dark chocolate: I used 74% dark chocolate. It contains antioxidants and it is not heavy on sugar. It gives a nice chocolate taste and texture to your granola.
How to make Homemade Chocolate Dried Fig & Almond Granola:
This is a very simple and easy recipe, you basically have to mix everything and bake it. Here is how you make it:
First, preheat the oven to 160°C/320°F and add all the dry ingredients in a bowl, except the chocolate. Mix the ingredients and distribute them over a lined baking tray covered with a baking sheet.
Then, mix well the Agave syrup with the coconut oil. The coconut oil should be liquid for this step, if it is solid, put it in the microwave for a few seconds to make it liquid before mixing it with Agave syrup.
Pour the liquid mix into the dry mixture and massage all the ingredients, until well coated.
Put the tray in the middle of the oven and bake it for 20-25 minutes, stirring throughout it every 8-10 minutes. Since every oven is different, you want to keep an eye on it just to make sure it won’t burn.
Let it cool down on the tray and once it is cooled down, add the chocolate pieces, mix it all, and transfer the granola to an airtight container or large glass storage jar.
And your granola is done!
You can enjoy your granola as a topping for your chia pudding, in your yogurt, with milk/vegetable milk, for breakfast or a snack.
I hope you give it a try and enjoy it!
